Current Everyday Face: Before & After

28 September 2015

face 09
Hi guys!

My makeup life has been very boring of late, which is probably why I’ve been AWOL. But, I have been enjoying cutting down on the time it takes to trowel my face on every morning. The extra time has been spent hitting snooze another 20 times while attempting to stop the cat from sitting on my face.

My skin has been pretty parched and any kind of base makes it look like the Sahara so I’ve been skipping it altogether and opting for a richer moisturiser with a bit of concealer to cover my dark circles. Nothing too heavy – Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer does the job. It doesn’t cover the darkness completely but improves the situation significantly. I set that quickly with some powder, I’m liking Bourjois Healthy Balance at the moment. I also put a bit on my nose to stop it getting shiny during the day, and a little through my eyebrows to get rid of any moisture before I go in with Anastasia DipBrow pomade. I buff in some Benefit Hoola bronzer on my cheekbones, jawline and temples to warm up my face and balance out the lightness of the concealer under my eyes. Then, a quick slick of mascara – I’m not particularly loyal to one particular mascara right now but Maybelline Lash Sensational gives a nice separated effect, making me look a little less sleep deprived. Finally, a nude lip finishes my face off before I dash out the door. I keep going back to Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet lip pencil in Nude Perfection is literally the perfect nude (full review here).

And that’s it! This look takes me 10-15 minutes to do which is a welcome change to the previous 45 minutes I used to take!

FOTD: Everyday Drugstore Look

5 December 2014

everyday fotdWhen I say minimal, don’t be fooled – it still takes me three and a half years to do this look. No matter how early I start my makeup, you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll still be frantically hurling myself out the door in a cloud of panic and confusion. However, if unlike me, you have your shit together, you can do this look in 15 minutes so don’t let my bad example put you off.

I’ve been opting for less makeup recently, gradually weaning myself off heavy eyeliner, and most days I go foundation-free.

Apologies for the horrendous lighting – it’s dark when I get up, it’s dark when I get home and the spotlights make for extremely shadowy photos. Flash is all I had left.

Disclaimer: This is almost all drugstore products – the lipstick is MAC but I’m sure you’ll get over it.

FOTD: Glowing Skin

There’s no point fighting it: dismal autumn weather is here. It appears that ‘fall’ as our American friends like to call it isn’t all joyous skipping on crunchy leaves and sitting around draped in faux fur throws drinking chai lattes. Rather, it’s Sunday dread all week long and resorting to using flash on the camera. Usually I pile on plenty of eyeshadow and liner but for today’s FOTD I decided to focus on glowing skin to perk myself up a bit.

I was also going to pan out a bit further and show off my new long weave but I had no bra on, and my chest isn’t the type anyone wants to see unharnessed.

Also, to add even more unprofessionalism to today’s post, I forgot to include the lip products I used in the photo. Apologies!

FOTD: Daytime Smokey Eye

23 April 2014

daytime smokey eye I’m not going to lie, most mornings I barely have enough time to have a shower and slap on a bit of concealer, never mind a full-blown smokey eye. However, I’ve bought the motherlode in beauty products recently and today I forewent the extra few minutes lying in my pit to make a bit of an effort for the office. I decided to do a quick and simple brown smokey eye to add a bit of definition to my haggered face. Is it just me but do you always feel a little awkward putting on a bit more makeup at work? I always get teased by the boys and my manager thinks I’ve got an interview elsewhere. There are so many bright lipsticks I want to wear during the week which are shunned until the weekend for fear of the comments.daytime smokey eyeAfter prepping my face, I popped NARS Sheer Glow in Barcelona to even out my skin tone. As I type this, I’ve just realised I forgot to put concealer on (well done, stupid!) but the foundation seemed to mostly cover up my offensive dark bags. This shade is slightly too light for me so I lightly contoured with the bronzer from my Sleek Face Form palette in Medium to add a little life back to my face. A little bit of Accessorize Baked Blusher in Scandal (review here) finished off my complexion. I lightly filled in my brows with Natural Collection Eyeshadow in Crushed Walnut which is a great multi-tasking colour. I used the same eyeshadow as the base for my smokey eye which is perfect for adding a little bit of definition without going overboard. I blended KIKO Eyeshadow in Pearly Cocoa (which I used for the first time, I was blown away by its quality, and it’s only £2.90!). I added a quick flick of liner using Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama gel liner in Black and finished it all off with 17 Falsifeye mascara in Black. A quick slick of my beloved Carmex Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating lip balm in Pink Sheer Tint (review here).
